James Cameron's 3d epic, Avatar, caused a huge buzz in the film industry. The world of spirituality was inspired by Jeffrey Armstrong's book Teachings of the Avatar. And, of course, a wild frenzy has sweept many youngsters with Avatar: The Last Airbender. It seems that everywhere we look, the "A" word is creating a commotion. So, you can imagine the loud uproar of applause a few mornings ago when Paramahamsa Nithyananda, an enlightened master from South India, delivered a morning message to his followers, stating, "The title of my book has been set: Autobiography of an Avatar!"
It's no small joke for a master to proclaim His Avataric mission live on web cam, in front of hundreds of people; an avatar is a living incarnation of the highest divine energy. A being who has already gone beyond all the limitations of earthly life, who is bound by no karma, yet decides to take on a human birth out of sheer compassion for humanity. An avatar is someone who shakes the very foundations of society, creating the space for the necessary growth and expansion of a civilization. At pivotal times in Earth's history, we have known avatars to incarnate, spreading the good news, awakening us to the truth. Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, Krishna, Buddha. These figures are enlightened masters, and also much more. A master is someone who exhausts all their karma and realizes the truth, then teaches others to do the same.
Avatars are masters who have been masters before, they come back without any karma, often knowing their entire life that they have something of great importance to share with the world. They go through trials and triumphs, all in the name of realization, and all with the aim to awaken humanity. Their life stories then become our world culture.
That said, Nithyananda's mission is a great one! His plan is to raise the collective consciousness of the planet to a higher state; a state that goes beyond the limitations of the mind and into a space of pure eternal bliss. (Nithya Ananda means Eternal Bliss.) By reviving the ancient Vedic culture, and creating beautiful transformation in individual lives, He is paving the way for a smooth shift into higher consciousness, which is coming in 2012. His message to humanity is to become comfortable in the spaces between thoughts, meditate, and practice enlightenment techniques. This way, when our consciousness is raised, it will take us into the state of bliss. Otherwise, if we continue to live with addictions, clinging to entertainment and consumerism, and ignoring the consciousness within us that is self-fulfilling, the shift will lead only to depression.
Nithyananda is my gurudeva, my beloved master. In this blog, I'll share with you the mystical story of how I came to find Him, and how practicing His great truths continues to lead me to deeper and deeper experiences of myself.
Until next time, let us all do as Nithyananda blesses us to do:
Live and Radiate Enlightenment
Beautifully expressed Ma Nithya Sudevi.
